Education Program

Mainstream school wasn’t working for me because I have learning difficulties, and it was just too stressful. I found out about the SCYS Education Program , and it’s been a much better fit. The environment is calm, everyone is nice, and there’s no extra stress, so it’s easier to focus and get my work done.

I couldn't attend mainstream school because of mental health issues, and I needed a different way to learn. I heard about the SCYS Education Program through another service, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed.At SCYS, I feel like I learn better because the program is flexible and works around me. The youth workers are really supportive, and I can go at my own pace without feeling pressured. The environment and resources make a huge difference too.

For many students school can be a cycle, attend, do a test, fail, move on. This can be particularly true if you have ADHD, dyslexia, autism or just need a bit more time before you get it. Here with our collaboration between SCYS and TAFE we try to take a different approach. Here you practice at your own pace and you only complete an assessment when you are ready for it. This means that you have a high chance of passing which is fantastic for a student's self esteem. If you don't pass then you don't go backwards. You practice again until you are ready for another go. Using this model we reward the hard work of students. We endeavour to create an environment where hard work and perseverance will always move you closer to your goals.
